Quilling Shapes and Scrolls
This is a reference guide to the shapes and scrolls used in quilling.
Tools
Glue (Clear Drying)
Quilling Slotted Tool or a Nail (You can see how to make your own Here.)
Ruler
Scissors
Straight Pins
Toothpicks (for applying glue)
Tweezers
Wax Paper Covered Cardboard
Materials
Paper Strips
Quilling Shapes and Scrolls Template
Instructions
Print Quilling Shapes and Scrolls Template on card stock.
Place the end of a piece of quilling paper in the slot on the quilling tool. Hold the paper between thumb and forefinger. Turn the quilling tool. The paper will begin to wind up into a circle.
Quill the different shapes and scrolls.
Tight Circle:
Roll the entire piece of paper strip with the quilling tool. Do not let the roll expand. Open the end of the roll and glue.
Loose Circle:
Roll the entire piece of paper strip with the quilling tool. Let the roll expand. Open the end of the roll and glue.
Grape Roll:
Roll a tight circle. Use the back of the quilling tool and press the circle into a dome or cone. Spread glue over the underside edges to hold the shape.
Half Circle:
Roll a loose circle. Flatten one side of the circle by pinching the circle at two points.
Tear Drop:
Roll a loose circle. Pinch one point on the circle.
Curved Tear Drop:
Make a tear drop and curve the point.
Marquise:
Roll a loose circle. Pinch two points on opposite sides.
Curved Marquise:
Make a marquise and curve the points.
Bunny Ear:
Make a loose circle. Make a rounded indentation on one side.
Square or Diamond:
Make a marquise. Turn your marquise ninety degrees and pinch it again. Make sure your four points are all opposite of one another.
Rectangle:
Make a marquise. Turn it slightly and pinch two more points.
Triangle:
Make a tear drop. Pinch the rounded side in two points to make a flat side.
Scroll:
Roll the paper strip. Do not glue the end to the coil. Let the coil unroll. Shape to the desired tightness.
Heart Scroll:
Fold the paper strip in half. Roll the ends towards the fold (inward). Glue to keep your scrolls together.
C Scroll:
Roll half of the paper strip. Roll the other half in the same direction.
S Scroll:
Roll half of the paper strip. Roll the other half in the opposite direction.
V Scroll:
Fold the paper strip in half. Roll the ends outward.
Y Scroll:
Fold the paper strip in half. Roll the ends outward. Glue the fold.
Glue the shapes and scrolls to the card stock template in the appropriate squares.
