Batik With Glue

Tools
Dryer or Iron
Paint Brushes

Materials
Bandanna - Cotton
Fabric Dye or Acrylic Paint
Plastic Bag
Washable Gel Glue
Washable Markers

Instructions
Cover your work space with a plastic bag.

Draw a design on the bandanna with a washable marker.

Squeeze the glue bottle and apply glue on the marker lines.  This will make a thick glue line.
Use a paint brush to apply the glue.  This will make a thin glue line.  The thinner the glue, the faster it will dry.

Set the bandanna aside, and allow the glue to dry.

Paint the bandanna with fabric dye or watered down acrylic paint.  I used Tumble Dye.  It was very simple to use.  I just sprayed the dye right onto the fabric.  You can learn more about this product  at SEI Crafts.
If you use fabric dye, be sure to follow the manufacturers instructions.

Allow the fabric dye or paint to dry.
After the bandanna air dried, I placed the bandanna in the dryer for 20 minutes to set the color.

When dry, remove the glue by soaking the bandanna in a tub of warm to hot water.  This may take 10 to 30 minutes to soften the glue.  When the glue is softened, scrub the glue areas to speed up the process.

After all of the glue is removed, hang the bandanna to dry.

Iron the bandanna or run it through a dryer to set the color.
